Josh McDaniels moves up head coaching interview times after Patriots loss to Titans
Josh McDaniels will interview for head coaching jobs sooner than expected following the New England Patriots’ Wild Card loss to the Tennessee Titans on Saturday. The longtime Patriots offensive coordinator originally was scheduled to begin the interview process Friday, Jan. 10. Now, McDaniels’ interviews with the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Carolina Panthers will start on Monday, according to Michael Lombardi of The Athletic.
Tsitsipas back in groove as Zverev searches for answers
Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas was clinical as he picked up his first win of the season at the ATP Cup in Brisbane on Sunday against a temperamental Alexander Zverev of Germany, who was almost reduced to tears due to problems over his serve. Nick Kyrgios’ late withdrawal due to a back problem did not stop Australia from defeating Canada, as the hosts became the first to seal a quarter-final spot with their second 3-0 win in the inaugural team event. Australia had beaten Germany in their opening tie and qualified for the Final Eight stage in Sydney as Group F winners after Germany beat Greece 2-1 in the evening session.

The New England Patriots provided plenty of bulletin board material for the Tennessee Titans before they faced off in Saturday’s AFC wild-card game. And after they beat the Patriots 20-13, it was clear that the Titans had been motivated by all of it. Patriots linebacker Kyle Van Noy gave the Titans a great bulletin board quote right after the Pats lost to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17.
Penguins’ DeSmith misses NHL call-up after losing passport
Pittsburgh Penguins minor league goalie Casey DeSmith missed a chance to join the NHL team in Montreal on Saturday because he lost his passport. The Penguins wanted to promote DeSmith from the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for Saturday’s game against the Canadiens while they let Tristan Jarry rest at home before hosting Florida on Sunday. Pittsburgh called on DeSmith, who has played 50 games for Pittsburgh over the past two seasons, but the 28-year-old couldn’t find the paperwork to travel internationally.
Ben Watson says he’s probably done playing
Patriots tight end Ben Watson said after Saturday night’s loss to the Titans that it was probably the last game of his NFL career. Watson, who initially planned to retire a year ago before changing his mind and returning to the Patriots, doesn’t think he has it in him to come back in 2020. It’s difficult.
